Democrats and Compacts

It's rainy and cold here, the kind that makes you want to stay in bed all morning.
In related news, Democrats won back control of the House and Senate.
Actually, unlike some of my friends, I don't think it's the end of the world as we know it. Think about it: our country began with conflict—Federalists vs. Antifederalists, Constitution vs. Bill of Rights. In fact, the entire system is built upon the crazy notion of checks and balances to prevent any one person or group from becoming too powerful.
I think what we saw these last twelve years was a group of Republicans not being challenged seriously enough and consequently becoming lazy, complacent and, in far too many cases, corrupt. That's not to say all Republicans went bad or that having the majority sent them off the deep end or even that I think the whole lot of them should be lined up for death by seasoning squad. But if today's loss in the House and Senate can serve as a wakeup call to the Republicans, then I see hope in the rain.
Oh, and before the flaming begins, let me just say that I am not deluded into thinking that the Democrats have a far better plan to offer. I still disagree with many of their major tenets: abortion, gay marriage, affirmative action, higher taxes, more government control, socialism light, ad nauseum. But if some of these numbskull Republicans can't wake up and smell the statesmanship, then I say bring on the challengers. We desperately need people who will take the future of our country more seriously than their own personal demons. That or a revolution. (Read this very carefully.)
On a completely different topic, just wanted to let you all know (in case you didn't notice) that I put up a "Compact" section on the sidebar. It's a place where I can post little notes of interest without feeling the need to write up a 250 word article. I post to it alot more frequently than my journal. Think of it like Blog Lite. Or a tiny container of PlasticMind. Hence the name.

10 November 20062. KJV:
There are many different “Bible” versions today claiming to be the Word of God. Each one tells us that it is the most reliable, most accurate, etc. etc.. But which of them is God’s Word? Since they all disagree with one another, we can’t possibly say that they all are. Can we? Are we to suppose that God has written more than one Bible and that he makes statements in one and then disagrees with himself in another? No, of course not. God only wrote one Bible. How, then, do we go about determining which “Bible” is the Bible? If we look to human opinion for the answer, we will find nearly as many opinions as we find people. One person will like one. Another person will prefer another. Yet a third person will assure us that it really doesn’t matter, telling us that any of them will do just fine. Since we aren’t interested in human opinion here, we need to look to scripture for help in resolving this issue. There are two questions that we will need to consider. (1) Which are the correct manuscripts?
(2) Which is the proper translation of those (the correct) manuscripts
10 November 20063. Michael H.:
Um...KJV? I defy you to find a difference between the serious translations of the Bible that changes the essense of the Gospel.
10 November 20064. Mark:
Wow, KJV. To what comments or post are you responding? Are you a spam commenter? A sniper-commenter?
And you ask two questions which, according to your logic, cannot be answered. Both would rely on human opinion, which you blast as having no value.
Jesse: The Republicans have shamed themselves over the past years. The Democrats won't do much better, but as you said, the change may be good. Besides, the early church persisted under Nero, and I think we have a lot of work to do in the church before we worry about the government. Oh, the advances we would see if the efforts put into this election by the church were redirected toward a new Reformation!! There is only one name under heaven by which we must be saved, and it's not "Bush," nor is it "Pelosi." Thanks for the level evaluation.
YourThoughts?

9 November 20061. Jonathan Fisher:
Could not agree more. Bring on the changes. Though I'll believe the Dems can change the war when I see it. I don't really think they have any better plan to fix it than the Reps do. I am quite sure I'll be deploying again, to a hostile combat zone again... right on schedule...
