So I've had a real time of trying to get my installation of Movable Type to work at Netfirms. Upon proper installation of MT (referencing Netfirms MT support instructions) I ran the login file and got a mess of headers (which we talked about at the Movable Type support forums). After an email to Netfirms, they apologized and sent me this:

Please be advised that we do support Movable Type version 3.15. Sorry for the earlier misunderstanding.

If you encounter a caching error displaying on each page, please see the solution below:

To fix the problem with the Cache error displaying on each page, replace line 93 of lib/MT/App.pm, i.e.,

print $app->{query}->header(%{ $app->{cgi_headers} });

with

print "Content-type: text/html\n\n";

Only now mt.cgi keeps forgetting my login--mt.cgi does not remember me, no matter what the browser (tried IE, Firefox and Safari) I use (and at a number of different computers). Each time I select an action (new post, delete weblog, edit author) it asks for the user name and password again.But I thought perhaps I could live with it, but there are some seriously strange things that have happened. Melody is now a permanent author (for those unfamiliar with Movable Type, Melody is the initial login with which you create yourself and then delete) and I cannot delete her from the author list (there is no check box for delete).

I also cannot upload pictures--I get this strange message:

Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi.

Reason: Error reading from remote server

So here is the latest response from Netfirms support:

If you're being presented with multiple login prompts when accessing MT, please check the following:

1. All the .pm files located in /cgi-bin/extlib/CGI/ should have been uploaded in ASCII format. We suggest that you reupload each of the .pm files in ASCII format.

2. Ensure that your browser is set to accept cookies

Regarding Uploading picutres, please provide a username and password to your MT so we can test this out further.

In my email to them I made it clear that I had done the very things they are now suggesting. This saga has dragged on for weeks. Hopefully Movable Type will declare an official opinion on Netfirms; or perhaps I should be asking the question the other way 'round? Let's just say I'm glad my site is at Kinetix Hosting.

*UPDATE* Some have commented that this post was a bit to inflammatory; I guess I'm just frustrated at the lack of both cooperation and responsibility on the part of Netfirms.
