Free Derek Webb

On September 1st, in the spirit of furthering the Great Conversation, Derek Webb (former lead from Caedmon's Call) is giving away his Mockingbird album online. This pull-no-punches album has some people offended, but is that a good thing? Free to listen, free to download, free to converse. Go on over and sign up to be notified when the audio--and the discussion--pours forth.

ooh- thanks for the heads-up- I love Derek Webb! Even his last album was controversial- he had to change some of the lyrics before they would release it, and some stores refused to sell it!

29 August 20062. Jesse Gardner:

Yeah, so I've heard. I've not followed his career (though I'm a big Caedmon's Call fan), but from what I've read of the controversy, there's some serious misplaced priorities.

"I used to be a damned mess but now I look just fine"--weren't we damned before we were saved? Does the word condemned make it all better? And my favorite "controversial" passage is this: "I am a whore I do confess, I put You on like a wedding dress."

Goodness. When we proclaim Christ and live like the world, haven't we gone "a-whoring"? Maybe the church doesn't like someone jumping on the bed when they're sleeping so soundly...

YourThoughts?
