Heroes vs. 24, Part 2: Television Makes Me Cry

Well, 24 has officially become "that thing I do on Monday night" while I'm daydreaming about what's happening on Heroes. I can only put up with so much of Jack Bauer bloodying up people. How sad that the idea of Wayne Palmer dying made me yawn (goodbye terrible acting!), while the idea of HRG dying made me cry. (I love you Claire-bear...)

Talk about powerful film making! This show is better than the movies (with almost as many special effects); brilliant story lines, convincing dialog, fantastic actors and plot twists that throw you off your seat. So many questions answered, plenty more questions asked:

** spoiler alert **

1. Is the Haitian taking Claire into hiding?
2. How much of HRG's memories did the Haitian erase?
3. Was the man who shot Ted actually Linderman?
4. Will Matt join forces with the OWI?

Sigh. I wish they'd move Heroes to 8pm.

I teared up too...What a plot twist...sheesh. First I thought her was going to turn her in, then I thought he was going to kill her, and then he took the bullet himself...

Arg...what a cliff hanger...I am embarassed by how addicted i am becoming!

Last night's episode was fabulous!!!
1. yes. that's why HRG said to "go deep." --I finally like HRG. He is a better man than he thought he was.
2. my guess is only the memories about the escape. anything more would look really fishy when he returns to Primatech.
3. no. 2 reasons: the preview for next week said we would finally see Linderman; Linderman is played my malcolm mcdowell. --how cool is that?
4. I'm worried about Matt. Without the Hatian, though, they can't erase his memories. I think he and HRG are going to take the creepy research project out.

Yes, I am completely addicted myself. Was anyone almost expecting Hiro's dad to be involved, yet still surprised to see him actually invovled? And does he know that his own son is one of "them"?

I'm addicted, and I watch the show religiously. Still, it's a desperately guilty addiction.

You had me at "special effects" and "storylines," but you should have stopped there. "Convincing dialog" and "fantastic actors"???!!! Yikes. Am I the only snob out here?! Am I the only one who blazed red with embarassment when HRG said, "They're like teacups...so fragile..."?

This show really capitalizes on human imagination and wishful thinking (what superpower would you choose?!), but doesn't offer much beyond that.

One day soon, I predict that the red is gonna be licked clean off the candy, and we'll see that this series has worse dialogue than Days of Our Lives, and more plot inconsistencies and goofs than Waterworld meets The Fantastic Four.

Until that day, I'm a fan. I love you too, Claire-Bear!

I am with the Martini on the '"Convincing dialog' and 'fantastic actors'???" statement...I don't think it has either...but it so attracts the adolescent in me that I just don't care.

I like the dialogue. Perhaps the reason it bothers you is that you really wish we all talked better than that. But we don't. Mainly we're about the same level of iffy metaphors and cheesy thoughts as the characters in Heroes. Well, the show has a little more cheese because it's basically a comic book. Which is why I disagree that the candy will be licked red-less: comic books have been around for years. Star Trek has far less sparkling dialogue and has survived multitudes of re-runs. And unless the characters start passionately monologuing the camera on a regular basis, I think we're safe from sounding like soaps. I have honestly heard very few lines that were out of step with who the characters are. Like I said, I think we just all wish we sounded more like a well-scripted variety show when we all know we more often sound like comic books. :P

Well I absolutely Love it, as evidenced in the last post. But I get so frustrated with Peter being so dense and Nathan such an idiot. claire has made some decisions that have left me shaking my head... I am enjoying episodic tv again. Something that has been ruined for me for so long. The reason I switched to mainly watching only movies. But LOST and Heroes have made me giddy like a school boy. Plus Hanna texts me on a regular basis. As the Anchorman said. "I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal."

28 February 20077. Shawn Blanc:

Aww geeze. I don't watch 24 live, but rent the DVDs. Thanks a lot for ruining this season.

But in all honesty, I'll probably forget what you said by the time I catch up.

28 February 20078. Jill:

Yeah, I'm not really certain that Heroes has great writing or acting. We don't want a show built on unreality to sound like the muddled speech we hear every day. And contrary to Ren's comment, I can't recall when I have used such poorly crafted vocabulary to speak in my day to day.

Anyway, I watch 24 because it is a link with my dad. We watch and then we discuss.

However, during this week's episode, I started to think back to two seasons ago when the President was wounded and suddenly the rat fink vice president gets put into power. Sound familiar? I started to get disgusted more by that than any of Jack's violent shennanigans. Don't reuse storylines!!!!

Um, let me think abou--...nope. That's not it.
