The Gauntlet Challenge

I've not been tagged, but I enjoy a good challenge:

What kind of husband doesn't read his wife's Xanga? The very same person who got tagged by his wife without realizing it, I suppose. Anyhow, here's my response to my wife's challenge (sorry babe!):

  1. One book that changed your life:
    Dandelion Wine, by Ray Bradbury.
  2. One book that you’ve read more than once:
The Essays of E.B. White, by E.B. White.
  3. One book you’d want on a desert island:
How to Survive Anything, Anywhere, by Chris McNab.
  4. One book that made you laugh:
The Roald Dahl Omnibus: Perfect Bedtime Stories For Sleepless Nights, by Roald Dahl.
  5. One book that made you cry:
    My Antonia, by Willa Cather.
  6. One book that you wish had been written:
    Autobiography, by Keith Green.
  7. One book that you wish had never been written:
The Critique of Pure Reason, by Immanuel Kant.
  8. One book you’re currently reading:
Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics, by William Lane Craig
  9. One book you’ve been meaning to read:
The Gates of Rome: Emperor, Book 1, by Conn Iggulden.
  10. Now tag five people:
Mark Nicholson, Mark Norwood, Sarah Eliza, Renee Doiron and Dad.

It was hard to narrow it down to five people. I'd really love to see what Austin or Larosa Johnson have to offer, too...

Nice responses. It's amazing how much Dandelion Wine influenced many of use during those couple of years at PCC.

RYC on Beth's site: Jesse, I should clarify, I guess =), that I wear my rings on a necklace that is around my neck!

10 August 20067. Xpressionccr:

You don't like Rilke?!?!?! Did your mama drop you on your head when you were small or something....hmmm....I don't know if we can still keep fellowship, man.

10 August 20068. Mark:

I have seen your challenge, and do plan to reply. Give me a few days to get some things in order, and you bet I'll list my answers...

13 August 20069. jscottkill:

I'm with you on the Rilke, Jesse, although if you could read it in the original language, you might find it more poignant.

You don't like ...Pure Reason? Love me some Kant.

It is awesome to see that you are reading Dr. Craig. Haley and i really enjoyed sitting under his ministry and then watching him go onto secular campuses and decimate his opponents. Outside of Chesterton, Dr. Craig has easily had the most influence on my growth as a follower of Christ.

13 August 200610. filosofo:

One book that you wish had never been written: The Critique of Pure Reason, by Immanuel Kant.

Why don't you like Kant?

14 August 200611. Jesse Gardner:

While I admire Kant for his painful exactness and stunning thoroughness, I don't like the wall he erected between faith and reason. If I understand CPR correctly (and who does!), his divorcement of analytics and metaphysics, in my opinion, really set the stage for the church's current love affair with "anti-intellectualism". Because he believed that reason couldn't attain knowledge of things beyond the realm of sensory experience, suddenly reason is useless in approaching God. I'm not too comfortable with that.

YourThoughts?
