I walked outside through a damp, close night with the smell of vegetation strong and alive in my lungs. There were no stars, only wet darkness straight up, and the peepers and crickets were playing our song. "Can I stay? Would it be a sin?" I really couldn't help falling in love with her. It was not a picture perfect night, but I felt so keen and full of life that even the soggy earth meant flowers to come.

And so I sit here, torn. I have found my greatest love; she loves me in return. But there, looming on the horizon like a great inevitable desert, is separation -- college. The bond we share is strong, but the phone does no one justice and for a man who has spent every day this summer with the woman he wants to marry, it pretty much stinks. And to add to the bittersweetness... its been two months since we've gotten engaged.

So, yeah. A dark, beautiful night.
