Carbon County, PA
We looked at our calendar and realized that this weekend was our only free weekend until July, so we jumped in the car and drove up to Jim Thorpe, PA (the town formerly known as Mauch Chunk). Once famous for railroads and coal mining, now Jim Thorpe boasts itself as "Gateway to the Poconos" and carries some of the charms of a small European town, with narrow winding city streets and a camponile that plays Star Wars. It also doesn't hurt that it's squarely in the nook of towering hills, giving it that decidedly Austrian feel (only without all the Nazis).
Then it was off to Lehigh Gorge State Park where we hiked a fairly short way to see the famed waterfalls. I think I'll let the pictures explain them. Check out the complete set at Flickr:

Goodness. Well, let's clarify. It is, in fact, an ad. At least be honest about it. But I don't mind it being there. It's such a quaint little town, if someone buys a house up there, good for them and good for you. (I'd just better get some kickbacks!)

okay, be honest - how many of the railway shots did you photoshop (read "enhance")? the colors - and angles - are awesome!
2 May 20064. Jesse Gardner:
Ha ha! Well, every single shot saw Photoshop. Here's my standard photo touch up routine.
> Ctrl-shift-l (auto levels)
> Ctrl-shift-f (fade auto levels)
> Choose overlay mixing
Of course, for all of these I added a slight 50 pixel burn to the edges and a bit of a contrast enhancement for the center. (Also known as the 'lomo effect'.)
Keep trying. One day you'll be as cool as me. :-P

Let me also add that while I did "enhance" the colors (cameras always deaden reality, don't they?) I didn't change anything about the images. I was tempted to remove some power lines, but didn't go there.

Hey did you get the logo?
What's the best time to call you tomorrow?

Hey, Jesse. Can you email me your phone number? I've got a quick couple of questions. Seriousandy@yahoo.com

Hope you don't think of this as an "ad" but if you go to Jim Thorpe again and would like to rent a house on the East side of town, please let me know.
