Someone handed me an article today about a man named Thomas Early who was sentenced for not registering his address according to Megan's law. He's termed a 'sexual predator' for raping a quadriplegic man in a nursing home and as such is required to notify police whenever he moves.

The scary thing is that there's a picture of him in our church directory. He stopped coming to our church last year, but had been a fairly regular attender before that time.

All of that to say this: you can never be too careful about who you let get involved at your church. Some people have balked at background checks for those volunteering in ministries, but we need them for this very reason.
